Madras School of Social Work was established in the year 1952, situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, South India.

Ms. Mary Clubwala Jadhav was an Indian philanthropist and a recipient of India's civilian honour Padma Shri.

She has founded a large number of NGOs in Chennai and in few countries. She is often credited with setting

up the oldest organized social work bodies in India. Her organization Guild of Service operates more than a

dozen units related to orphanage, Female Literacy, Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled etc. She has

been honored with Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honor of India in 1975. She was the founder of Madras School of Social Work, an autonomous institution affiliated to the University of Madras. The School is rated 5th Best Social Work College in India and 1st in South India. The P.G. Department of Social Work (Shift II) is an emerging department marching towards excellence. The department features and focuses on out-bound training, social development, dynamic learning competencies and multi-tasking among students.

 

 

ABOUT  DEPARTMENT

 

     A unique feature of our department is the importance given to field work training and focus on the personal and social development of the students. Students are exposed to highly qualified members of faculty who have rich experience and varied background. Students have the potential skill and confidence to work in any organization and meet the expectations of the organization recruiting them thereby adding value to any organization. The department equips the future managers and social workers with learning, and potential skills that set them apart. Developing values such as the belief in hard work, punctuality, self-reliance, concern for others, and harmony of purpose is the pillar on which the department has marched the last 5 years.
As future HR Managers and social workers our department trains the students to articulate their vision, mission, purpose, values, and strategies for the betterment of the organization they are working for and also instills in a passion to perform. The department also has a few unique features that set them apart from the students of other courses.


 

ABOUT  THE CONFERENCE

 

     Interdisciplinary intervention and cross cultural sharing in Social Work is an effort to bring together social workers, professionals and other related fields to discuss, deliberate and share information on the issues, challenges, models and policies under various sub-themes. Social work is a profession that embraces diversity, partnership and collaboration among different disciplines and professionals. One way of making this happen, is to mutually exchange ideas and disseminate best practices and policies on a common platform. This conference provides a platform for various disciplines, professionals, practitioners and policy makers to come together to exchange knowledge, ideas, innovative skills and practices to share and analyze the different social issues in greater depth.

 

OBJECTIVES

 

  • To create a platform for social work - students, research scholars, practitioners, educators and related health care professionals to deliberate and share information on the subthemes

  • To deliberate on the challenges of social workers in the various fields of practice

  • Sharing of research and evidence based finding in all areas of Social Work and related fields

  • To Strengthen Interdisciplinary approach in research and sharing of innovative practice models in research
